I’m Sarah Mak, a writer and narrative designer from Singapore. I write and design story-rich video games and interactive fiction.
My “semi-interactive”, “semi-autobiographical” short story, All the Skin(s) You Left Behind, was recently published in Free to Play, an anthology of video game-related writing.
My Global Game Jam 2026 game, i need more friends in my stupid baka life, was featured in The Straits Times (Singapore’s national newspaper), and my interactive fiction game, You Can’t Save Her, won a few awards at the 2024 Short Games Showcase.
I also write poetry. I made some interactive poems with Twine, which inspired me to experiment with interactive storytelling. If you’re interested in my page poetry though, my poems have been published in several journals and anthologies, such as Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, Eunoia Review, and Silver Birch Press. I’m also a member of zer0sleep, a writing collective supported by Sing Lit Station, a literary charity.
Sometimes, I lead game jam teams, and participate in game jams as a writer, game designer, and project manager. In addition to any writing and design work, I help my teams with any admin tasks (like creating and maintaining Discord servers, cloud storage systems, and project management tools). I really like creating frankenbabies with other cool people, and I’m happy to ensure that my game jam teams can focus on their work.
What I’m Doing Now
As of 19 June 2026, this is what I spend my time doing:
- Working on a few video game and poetry projects
- Busting my never-ending media backlog
- Listening to some non-fiction audiobooks
- Lifting weights (while listening to said audiobooks)
