All the Skin(s) You Left Behind

"Semi-Interactive" Fiction

All the Skin(s) You Left Behind

All the Skin(s) You Left Behind is a “semi-autobiographical”, “semi-interactive” fiction short story about playing an old MMORPG and wrestling with your identity. It was published in Free to Play, an anthology of video game-related writing.

Part of the story is published in the book, and part of the story is published on a website (and made in Twine).

This story is about a young woman who learns that the mobile MMORPG she played with her childhood friend is shutting down in three days.

As she plays this game with her friend’s account, she reflects on this past friendship—and thinks about the choices she should make in the future.

I wrote and designed the story, while Nic Chan handled the web development, web design, and art.

The physical book is currently available for purchase in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei on the Difference Engine website. The international release and e-book release are on 6 October 2026.
